Our playgroup had a "Kiddie Winter Olympics" last weekend. The kids marched in an opening ceremony, competed in three events ("speed skating", "skeleton" and "slalom"), received a certificate and medal and marched in the closing ceremony.
The kids had a lot of fun...and some were really competitive. (Cole being one of them!) He wanted to race against his best buddy Tyler in everything. Cole won the speed skating, Tyler won the slalom and they tied on the skeleton.
Cole was happy to get his medal.
The kids made red, white and blue snowflakes and hand print flags of a participating Olympic country to hang on the wall for decoration. They also brought a stuffed animal for their own personal mascot.
I made all the kids torches to carry for the opening ceremony...
Here is Cole with his torch and mascot Snoopy...

Closing ceremony... waving red, white and blue...Go USA!
Cole with his medal and certificate. His snowflake is the one directly left of him. He had a mishap with the scissors and trimmed too much! But hey, he did it himself and no two snowflakes are alike, right?! :)

Monster Burgers and Monster Trucks
We had a big night out! First we went to the Kooky Canuck for dinner to eat their famous burgers. The restaurant was featured on Travel Channel's Man vs Food. Cole loved his burger and ate it all plus a bite of mine. I thought the burger was good, but I think I had super high expectations.
After dinner we went to the Monster Jam monster truck show. We went early and were able to go meet the drivers, get autographs, take pictures (most important for Mum) and touch the bumpy tires (most important for Cole).
Cole really liked the show. He sat through the whole thing. Then he kept talking about how he wanted to go back again. We went with his buddies Ethan and Carter and they had a blast eating candy and driving their toy monster trucks around while watching the show.
Big smile for the burger!!!! There were a few real trucks there...and that is where Cole went first!!! All those huge monster trucks and he runs to the Ford.

From Ice Storm to Snow Storm
It all started last weekend...we had a big ice storm and lost power from 11pm to 1pm the next day. Our house was cold so we snuggled in bed and read with all the candles in our house blazing all over the bedroom. It was cozy. Today when we got up there was a ton of snow outside! The weather channel had said the night before we might get flurries. Well...
Checking out the snow...

Penguins
Dan's dad called this morning to tell us that they have 20 inches of snow. After Dan got off the phone he told us that he read online in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette that the Penguins (Pittsburgh's hockey team) have a game in Washington, DC but THEY SAID that they might not make it b/c they could be stuck in Canada due to weather. Cole said "Dad, you know penguins can't talk."
