100 Party

Today we had our 100 party to celebrate reading 100 books this summer. Here is Cole with his journal that we used to record all 100 books.
All the kids brought 100 items that we used to make a floor graph. (Well, actually it was a driveway graph!) Cole chose 100 "Toys R Us size" cars.

Sea shells, pennies, cars and superheroes! We discovered 100 superheroes were the longest and pennies were the shortest on the graph.

Snack time! Everyone brought different little snackie things to combine and share. We put it all in a bowl and dished out a bag full of candy corn, cheez its, cereal, raisins, marshmallows and mini cookies. The kids counted out 10 pieces to put in each of the 10 spots on their place mats. Then they had 100 things to eat!

Cars On Ice

Over the weekend we went to see Disney's Worlds of Fantasy On Ice. Dan got the suite...and I am so glad we didn't pay for tickets. Cole wanted to see the Cars part...and they were only on for about 5 minutes and that was it! It was definitely geared for girls.

We Love Fall!

Cole loves all the seasons and holidays like I do. :) He will say things that I say..."It smells like fall"or "It's a nice fall day".
On the first day of fall he was so excited because he is ready for the leaves to change colors. The other day he told me it was "apple pickin' time" and "when are we going apple pickin'?"
I decided to do a leaves theme for muffin tin Monday. Cole yelled out "That's awesome!" when he saw it.
Our lunch turned out to be the funniest lunch we ever had. I put lemon juice on the apples so they wouldn't turn brown...and they were so sour that Cole made sour faces with every bite, which made me laugh, which made him laugh!
Well, here it is:

Juice in a leaf cup, a jelly sandwich cut out with a leaf cookie cutter, a tree with changing leaves ( celery with peanut butter, raisins and leaf sprinkles)

cheese and crackers cut out with a leaf mini cookie cutter, leaf cookies and apples cut out with a leaf cookie cutter.

Cole needs "cold, regular water" by his bed. It HAS to be cold. The regular came about because Capri Sun makes flavored water pouches.

Muffin Tin Monday & Farm Tour

Today our playgroup toured a local family owned working farm. The kids toured the farm on a hayride and got to pick vegetables and see cotton and pumpkin patches. Their were horses and cows on the farm too.

Since I knew we'd be going to the farm, I did a farm theme MTM with things you would find on a farm or get to eat because of the animals raised on a farm.

Cole was so excited to see a pumpkin patch. We have been reading a lot of pumpkin books. (fiction and non-fiction)

We got to do the corn maze. It was supposed to take 30 minutes to complete, but we all cheated and after 10 minutes in the blazing sun we came back out the entrance.

After this picture the tour was over. Cole wanted a pumpkin since in the stories we have been reading the kids come home with a pumpkin and carve it into a jack-o-lantern. The lady was showing us the pumpkins for sale when Cole saw a big $25 pumpkin on a pallet. He stood on it to see the pumpkin. When he was coming down he tripped and tried to break his fall, but his hands went through the slots. He hit his mouth on the wooden slat and it was bleeding. I could see the outline of his permanent teeth through his gums. After he calmed down, he wondered if he could still get a pumpkin! The lady let him pick one out for free.

I called his dentist and he has an appointment first thing in the morning. He has been fine all night. He hasn't complained about pain and actually wanted to eat dinner.

Yikes!

It is almost fall and I still haven't blogged about all our summer activities!!!!



We went to a new addition of the Botanic Gardens called My Big Backyard. Cole loved it and has been bugging to go back. It is a really neat play area for kids. Cole's favorite part is the row of themed houses. He also liked wading in the streams.

Cole loves to play in our cars. On Sunday afternoon we just wanted some peace, so Dan drove the cars in the backyard so Cole could play.

Cole made me a stepping stone for my flower garden. We pressed his hand in the cement and decorated it with pretty stones. The kit came with letter stamps so I asked Cole to tell me a special message that I could put on the stone. He started going on and on about cars and his buddy Tyler. I told him it was MY stepping stone, so maybe he could say something for me. Here is what he said: "I love Mum. She is sweet." That boy makes me smile!

4th of July fun

We went to Mud Island. It is a park (in the MS river) that has a replica of the Mississippi river. It is filled with water so the kids can walk in it while they trace the path of the river from north to south.

We took the monorail over. Cole thought it was neat.

You can see the city of Memphis from the island. Here Cole is playing in the "Gulf of Mexico"
